A Calvin and Hobbes-esque series that stars alumni of four culty classics from the ’00s — and is produced by the guys who created The Adventures of Pete & Pete? Nickelodeon’s upcoming animated series Sanjay and Craig is clearly aimed at 20-somethings as well as their young nieces and nephews — and given the talent involved, this attempt to attract young adults just might work.

Like Disney’s similarly-named Phineas and Ferb, Sanjay and Craig follows the misadventures of its two title characters: excitable 12-year-old dreamer Sanjay (voiced by 30 Rock‘s Maulik Pancholy) and his best friend, a tricky anthropomorphic snake called Craig (The Nerdist‘s Chris Hardwick).

The show’s cool-certified cast also includes Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks, Mad Men) as Megan, a classic overachiever; Matt Jones (Breaking Bad‘s Badger) as hyper-enthusiastic Hector; and Tony Hale (Arrested Development, Veep) as busybody grownup Leslie Noodman. Jim Dirschberger, Jay Howell, and Andreas Trolf created the series; Pete & Pete creators Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi serve as its executive producers.

Kids and slightly embarrassed grown-ups alike can tune in to Sanjay‘s premiere Saturday, May 25 at 10:30 a.m. ET. Like the Nicktoons of old, the show’s first episode consists of two segments — in the first, Sanjay and Craig attempt to watch “the world’s first butt transplant,” while in the second, they go on a quest to find “the ultimate laugh.” Sounds like the perfect hangover cure — er, side dish to a bowl of sugary cereal. (Eh, same difference.)
